Domestic violence and sexual assault rates remain high in our state and in our region. As a healthcare center, Bethel Family Clinic has the opportunity to provide a safe and non-judgmental space for patients/clients to talk confidentially to their healthcare provider (Medical, Dental, and BH) about their safety at home and in their relationships.
Understanding how to respond to someone who is expressing safety concerns (verbally and/or non-verbally) and knowing available resources to offer them can make the person feel heard and may help them in making safe decisions for themselves and those around them. Please take a few minutes to become familiar with our local/national resources and ways to support individuals and families who find themselves in crisis or who are uncertain of their current safety situation.

The Bethel Family Clinic Behavioral Health Department offers three full time licensed behavioral health clinicians ready to explore your wellness goals.

Paula Jones
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

Paula is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who moved to Bethel 3 years ago.  She completed her Master’s Degree of Social Work at Utah State University. Her therapeutic approach is Trauma Focused and Holistic to support clients with faster healing and long-lasting recovery. She considers the importance of surrounding systems dynamics, adversities, and trauma clients may face and how this impacts the therapeutic process.

Paula integrates brain and body-based therapies into treatment, focusing on the overall disturbance that symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) cause on both the body and mind; Her goal is to help clients resolve the impact of past traumas, experience less intense responses, and to live a more connected and embodied life.

Paula’s experience ranges from working with clients in the community, incarcerated, and homeless with mental health and substance use diagnoses, at risk children and families, group therapy, developmental disabilities, inpatient mental health treatment for suicidality  and nonprofit community mental health.

Paula is trained in and uses Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Relaxation/Mindfulness Techniques, and Parent Child Attachment and Play Therapy Modalities.

Her joy is seeing clients achieve their goals, relationships mended, kids succeeding in school and believing in themselves, and individuals gaining insight and making positive lasting changes.

Blaine LaChance
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

Blaine is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Integrated Mental Health Professional who has been living in Bethel for just over 1 year. He completed his Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northern Vermont University in his home state of Vermont. Blaine’s experience has largely been with the acute care population focused on severe and persistent mental illness diagnoses (Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders, Bipolar, Major Depression, and Severe Personality Disorders). In addition to direct counseling experience, Blaine served as a program Administrator, Director and in leadership for large organizations to ensure those in need received adequate services, especially in rural areas.

As a direct care counselor, Blaine focuses on practical steps which clients can follow to improve issues they have identified. His focus is to ensure that when people leave a session, they feel they have covered some ground and can begin implementing change in order to feel better more quickly. In addition, all issues that come up in counseling are complicated, so finding ways to simplify things helps to make progress sooner.

In addition to clinical mental health assessment and services, Blaine teaches and advocates practical tools such as mindfulness, self-care, and other strategies which anyone can put to work right away to make the changes they desire.

Blaine also has an interest in nutrition as it relates to how we feel day-to-day, and is happy to discuss what changes can be made to how, when, and what we eat has an impact on things like anxiety, depression and our ability to cope. Some of this stuff is surprising and very useful! If individuals are interested, he is happy to share tools that have been used to help many people with their unique goals.

Blaine is trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Short-Term Solution Focused Therapy, Illness Management and Recovery (IMR), Wellness Self-Management (WSM), Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS), Integrated Mental Health and Nutrition, Mindfulness, and acute care modalities.

Jen’s experience in the YK Delta includes working with children, adolescents, adults and Elders. She has also worked with tribal entities and local advisory committees over the years to promote the physical, social and emotional wellness of individuals and communities.
